Sherlynn Allen Harris

 

Sherlynn Allen-Harris is an historian and educator who resides in Cleveland, Ohio.

She developed an interest in the study of African/African American history as a student at Cleveland State University, where she earned a Master’s Degree in history and served as president of Phi Alpha Theta International Honor Society in History.

Ms. Allen-Harris’ interest in the study of history led to her true calling shortly after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree, also conferred at Cleveland State University—teaching history.

She teaches history topics to high school students in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and at Cuyahoga Community College, where she serves as an adjunct history professor.

Ms. Allen-Harris is also a jazz aficionado and classic jazz lover. She writes free-lance articles for Spotlight on Jazz and Poetry’s Liner Notes—an online jazz blog, and for African American Lifestyles Magazine. In an additional professional capacity, Ms. Allen-Harris serves as president of the African American Archives Auxiliary of the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland.

Ms. Allen-Harris received advance praise for Under the Same Moon, at the New York Writers Workshop in New York City, where she was invited to present her synopsis to industry professionals in November, 2011. Ms. Allen-Harris the mother of a daughter, LaKisha, a son, Jonas,and a granddaughter, Shania. She is currently writing the sequel to Under the Same Moon, entitled, Illumination.
